These objects are ready-made photograms. The depicted forms have been created unintentionally through the exposure of sunlight onto light-sensitive fabric.
The green panels which comprise Forms in Green, Hackney are felt boards which once hung in a library window display in East London. The patterns embedded within the fabric indexically trace the shapes of the paper notices previously attached and the movements and actions of those who attached them. Cloud Study No.01 was created through an exposure of light onto a blue canvas left in an abandoned studio in South London. The length of the exposure is unknown.
The framing of both Forms in Green, Hackney and Cloud Study No,01 is a crucial part of this work. Both are encapsulated in ultraviolet protected box-frames, essentially halting and ‘fixing’ the photographic process.
These naturally occurring photographs embody a pure form of photography: the use of direct sunlight as a tool to trace and record time and movement.
