Ronnie Close

 Ronnie Close is a documentary photographer and filmmaker currently based in Cairo Egypt. His work explores social issues and narrative through the medium of film and photography. He was a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University of Wales Newport and is a Professor of Photography in the Department of Journalism and Media at the American University in Cairo. In 2010 he was awarded a Practice-based PhD in Photographic Research from the University of Wales Newport.

He has shown work in film festivals and exhibitions throughout Ireland, UK, Europe, USA, Canada and the Middle East. Some include: Ultras, Brighton Photo Biennial, Prison Notebooks 2, Ireland and Photography, Reaktion Books, (2012),  Night Time Room, Official Selection, The Kassel Documentary Film & Video Festival, Night Time Room, Solo Exhibition, ArtSway Gallery, UK, Night Time Room, Solo Exhibition, Picture This Gallery, Bristol, UK (2010), A Hard Place, the Elizabeth Foundation Gallery, New York and A Hard Place, Videographe Art Centre, Montreal (2009). Film awards include Digital Shorts, UK Film Council (2008).
