Mia Jankowicz is Artistic Director of Contemporary Image Collective in Cairo, Egypt. She studied Visual Cultures MA at Goldsmiths College and worked as Residencies Curator at Gasworks, London, before participating in de Appel Curatorial Programme. She has contributed texts to frieze, Untitled, Concept Store, the Exhibitionist, and various catalogues and readers. With Anna Colin she has collaborated on the independent curatorial project Disclosures, including Disclosures 1 and Hydrarchy, both of which relate non-dominant histories to contemporary practices.
At CIC, she has overseen major shifts including relocation, the launch of the CIC PhotoSchool, and, currently the development of Rufoof, an intranet linking major public contemporary art library resources in Egypt. Under her artistic direction CIC has developed variously collaborative, publication, exhibition, and critical workshop projects including The Paper Trail with Francesc Ruiz, the Alternative News Agency, and Propaganda By Monuments, co-curated with Clare Butcher. In November 2012 she will curate PhotoCairo 5, a large-scale bi-annual contemporary visual arts project.
