German–American artist Esther Teichmann received a Masters of Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in 2005. Based primarily in London, she is senior lecturer in Photography at the London College of Communication/University of the Arts London. Esther completed a PhD by project at the RCA in 2011 and spent 2012/2013 as guest professor and visiting artist in San Francisco at the California College of the Arts.
Teichmann's work has been exhibited and published internationally, with group shows in Houston, London, Los Angeles, Berlin, Mannheim and Modena and solo exhibitions in the UK, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. Esther curated a series of events, Affect & the Photographic, for The Photographers' Gallery, London in February 2011, and recently published a limited edition artist's book, Drinking Air.

Esther's work recently featured in Francesca Gavin's book, 100 New Artists, published by Laurence King and in Carol Mavor's Black and Blue published by Duke University Press and Mavor's Blue Mythologies published by Reaktion Books. In 2013 Teichmann wrote and curated a series of six monthly features for Foam Museum’s blog. Mythologies was shown in the Houston Centre of Photography (InAppropriation curated by Aaron Schuman) and is included in a current group show on in the Dong Gang Museum of Photography in South Korea (The Constructed View). In Search of Lightning will be screened at Night Contact Film Festival in London in September 2013. Esther will be exhibiting new works in early 2014 at Flowers gallery in London and will be featured in the October issue of EXIT magazine and on Daylight Digital in November with an essay by SFMOMA curator Jessica Brier.
